AS Investigations is committed to protecting and maintaining the privacy, accuracy and security of all our customer’s personal information. We abide by and respect our customer’s rights under the Privacy Act 1988 and other applicable laws and codes. We comply with the National Privacy Principles in respect to the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information from individuals. We store all personal information on our secure computer servers which can only be assessed by AS Investigations authorized personnel. Any hard copies of personal information are kept within lockable cabinets within our secured premises and are destroyed through document destruction services. Inquiries and complaints in relation to information or any concerns arising in relation to a breach to the Privacy Act 1988 can be directed to the Director of AS Investigations via phone or email contained in our website.
All AS Investigation staff sign acknowledgement to abide by the Privacy Act 1988 and at all times act accordingly within the confines of the New South Wales Commercial & Private Enquiry License laws.
1.1 Privacy obligations under the Privacy Act 1988
- The collection obligation that requires an organisation to provide an individual with certain details every time it collects their personal information. These include details such as the purposes for which information will be used and to whom the information will be disclosed.
- The use and disclosure obligation that prevents an organisation from using the information for a purpose other than the primary purpose for which it was collected. Information may only be used for other purposes if that purpose is related to the primary purpose for collection, or if an individual’s consent has been obtained to use it for that other purpose.
- The security obligation that requires an organisation to take reasonable steps to prevent information from misuse, unauthorised access, loss or modification.
- The access obligation that will allow individuals to access any record that contains their details, subject to a few exceptions.
